What to bring to your first meeting

You don’t need to prepare anything elaborate — but bringing the items below makes the first meeting more productive. If you don’t have one of these yet, that’s fine; we’ll work with whatever you have.

• A list of family members and beneficiaries — spouse, children, grandchildren, anyone with disabilities or special needs, and anyone you want to specifically exclude.
• A rough inventory of your assets — real estate (with addresses), bank and brokerage accounts (with institution names), retirement accounts (401(k), IRA, Roth), life insurance policies, and any business interests.
• Any existing estate documents — current trust, will, powers of attorney, advance healthcare directives, or any documents drafted by another attorney.
• Beneficiary designations — copies (or screenshots) of who you’ve named on retirement accounts, life insurance, and transfer-on-death accounts. These often override the will.
